Overview
Voucher numbers in Tally can change without warning, for example when the numbering method in a voucher type master is changed, or when a voucher's type is changed and then changed back. When e-invoices or e-way bills have already been generated with the original numbers, the voucher numbers in Tally no longer match the documents on the portal. Fixing this by altering each voucher by hand is slow and error-prone.
Voucher Number Restore adds a Restore Vch. Nos button to voucher registers such as Sales. In a few clicks, it brings the affected vouchers back to their original numbers.
How it works
Open a voucher register (for example, the Sales Register) and click Restore Vch. Nos.
Choose the restore method:
Bill Ref – restores the number from the bill-wise reference of the voucher. Works in both TallyPrime and TallyPrime Edit Log.
Edit Log – First Vch.No – restores the number the voucher was first saved with.
Edit Log – Previous Vch.No – restores the number from just before the last change.
The register lists only the vouchers whose numbers differ, with a new To Vch No. column showing the number each will be restored to. Differences appear in red.
Review the list and select specific vouchers if required, or leave it to restore all.
Click Execute Restore Vch.Nos. Restored numbers turn green so you can confirm the result at a glance.
Click Finish Restore Vch.Nos to return to the normal register.
Note: The Edit Log methods require TallyPrime Edit Log with the edit log enabled for the company.

There are two common causes. The first is changing the numbering method in a voucher type master, for example from Manual to Automatic, which can make Tally renumber existing vouchers. The second is changing a voucher’s type and later changing it back. When the voucher moves to the other type, it takes a number from that type’s series, and the original number is lost even after it returns.
Use Bill Ref for credit vouchers where the bill reference still holds the original number. Use Edit Log – First Vch.No to go back to the number the voucher was originally saved with. Use Edit Log – Previous Vch.No when the number changed more than once and you only want to undo the latest change.
No. They need TallyPrime Edit Log with the edit log enabled for the company, because the original numbers are read from the edit log. The Bill Ref method works in both regular TallyPrime and TallyPrime Edit Log.
No. The first step only shows the proposed numbers in the To Vch No. column. Numbers change only when you click Execute Restore Vch.Nos.
Yes. Select the vouchers you want in the register before executing. Otherwise all listed vouchers are restored.
No. It only restores the voucher number in Tally so it matches the number already used for the e-invoice or e-way bill.
It works in voucher registers such as the Sales Register.
Yes. Set the voucher type’s numbering method back to the one you intend to keep. Otherwise a later insertion or deletion could renumber the vouchers again. Taking a backup before executing is also good practice.
